LAOS are a local amateur musical theatre society who usually produce two ‘big’ shows per year. For almost ten years, I very much enjoyed designing artwork for them. I was honoured to design a new logo for them when they changed their name from “Loughborough Amateur Operatic Society” to simply “LAOS”.
Over the years, as social media has grown and the need to sell tickets has increased, our graphic presence has too. So what started as, more-or-less, ‘a poster and a programme’, grew rapidly into a wide-reaching campaign of advertising in both print and digital. It was always great fun coming up with new ideas and then working the same concept effectively through such a huge range of formats from tiny Facebook profiles graphics up to 6m-wide outside wall banners.
I also produced a 20-24 page full-colour programme for each show which usually included photographs taken at the dress-rehearsal. So this always involved a rapid turnaround to get them printed ready for ‘first night’… which, thankfully, we always managed!
Website
Another thing I manage for LAOS is their website. My husband is a website designer, so he set up a new site for them from scratch and I keep it up to date. One of my favourite parts is the sliding banner we have at the top of every page. Initially it shows an advertisement for the next show or shows but then it scrolls on to a photo library of all their shows since I started creating their artwork.
