We were very keen to have an image of our ‘Blackadder’ on the poster but at the early stages of production – when the advertising needs to be ready – the costumes, props and make-up often aren’t! So I set myself the task of creating a portrait painting almost ‘out of thin air’.
I started with a ‘normal’ photo of the actor, cropped it, adjusted the colours, raised his eyebrow, added a ruff and a beard, and finally adjusted the colours and textures for richness and mood.
